Domaine Arnaud Lambert, Saumur Brézé, Clos David Monopole, 2021, 750ml

$41

Description

The 2021 Saumur Brézé Clos David is a tranquil and calm Chenin, bringing silken flesh around its tangy acid backbone. Attractive nectarine, ripe apple and citrus aromas are joined by a subtle pastry character from 10 months on lees and a lick of cream from partial malo.

Arnaud Lambert is based in Brézé, in the heart of the Saumur appellation. He makes a series of excellent still and sparkling wines from Chenin Blanc and Cabernet Franc planted in quite porous chalk soils mixed with clay and sand. He has been certified organic since 2012.

Planted on tuffeau limestone bedrock with topsoil composition of sedimentary and alluvial depositions, Clos David shows off the intense minerality of the terroir. Harvested by hand and pressed whole cluster for 4.5 hours. The juice is then fermented in in 50% in 30hl foudre (bought in 2012) and 50% in 2-3 year old French oak barrels.
